what to eat at the white face lodge in lake placid

We hope you have planned some fun things to do when you’re in Lake Placid and have read our fun things to do. Now, we’d like to let you in on some places to eat while you’re in town. Again, this is with the gracious input of two locals, Anna and Jonathan, plus a friend who’s in the know. Many thanks. As always, we suggest you try and book reservations for any restaurants you really want to go to, as there will be a lot of people in town race weekend. The View, Kanu, and Artisans are on Open Table, but you’ll need to go to the websites for the others.

LAKE PLACID FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT

  • Downtown Diner & Bakery – Known to be the best place in town for breakfast. It has great prices, delicious food, and is a local favorite. It’s also open for lunch and is right on Main Street.
  • Lisa G’s – Locals hang out here at this warm, laid back restaurant. Their motto is “casual dining with a twist”, so think comfort food stepped up a notch. They also have a great outdoor seating area, besides the leather chairs and sofas.
  • There’s also Redneck Bistro, BBQ, & Grill for great burgers, fries, pulled pork, and daily specials.
  • Mirror Lake Inn – You have 3 great choices here: The View, Taste Bistro & Bar, or The Cottage. We have eaten at both The View and The Cottage and would recommend either. The View is definitely more upscale and romantic, but not fussy with a seasonal menu. The Cottage is a great place for lunch or a light dinner with lakeside dinning. Try Taste Bistro for drinks and casual dining.

  • Players Sports Bar & Grill – This is the newest restaurant in Lake Placid. It’s a sports bar and grill with lakeside dining right on Main Street. It has excellent prices and the most TV’s in one location with sports on in Lake Placid. Great for burgers, ribs, sandwiches, and salads.
  • Dancing Bears – This is located at High Peaks Resort. It used to be where many Olympians came to party in 1980. Here you’ll find good food, good prices, but occasionally slow service. A place to take the family and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Kanu at the Whiteface Lodge – There’s a real rustic feel to this dining room, like a giant log cabin. It fits in perfectly for the area. They feature an open kitchen and a menu that uses regional ingredients from local farms. The Lodge itself is gorgeous, so maybe worth the trip.

  • Jimmy’s 21 – Homemade pasta is the specialty here. Great place to take your athlete for that pre-race carbo-loading pasta dinner. Known for great service and great food. Also located on Main Street.
  • Vegetarians: Try either The Good Bite Kitchen – A great vegetarian restaurant in a tiny space. Consistently know for fresh, tasty, sophisticated food. Try their hand-made quiches and pies. Also, of note if you care – it’s #1 on Trip Advisor. Or The Scape Cafe, for a great selection of salads, sandwiches, fresh juices, and smoothies. It’s located in the Green Goddess Natural Market.

  • Adirondack Steak and Seafood – If you’re in the mood for a steak, this is the place to go. They also make their own beer and were voted one of the top ten resort breweries by USA Today this year. You can also dine outside on Main Street.
  • Caffe Rustica – You can find seafood, pasta, and pizza here, just a bit more on the gourmet side and not traditional Italian.
  • The Breakfast Club – You can get anything you want for breakfast at this casual restaurant with gorgeous views of Mirror Lake. They have really good breakfast sandwiches.

  • Desperados – If you’re in the mood for Mexican cuisine, this should satisfy your craving. They’ve been around for almost 20 years. They also have the largest selection of hot sauces in the region and serve over 170 types of tequila. Just saying…
  • Liquids and Solids – Locals love the eclectic menu; not your standard pub fare. We’re talking crispy chick pea fritters and roasted sweetbreads. Gotta love the combinations they pick. Time to be adventurous – you’re on vacation….
  • Chair 6. This restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and promotes a handcrafted seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients. It has a relaxed, but classy atmosphere, with kid-friendly choices and large portions.
  • Artisans at Lake Placid Lodge – The resort is a bit off the beaten path, certainly not on Main Street, but is simply a gorgeous location and venue. This is the place to go to for a really nice dinner out featuring fresh, seasonal cuisine. You’ll get to dine with a view of the Whiteface Mountains and Lake Placid.
