Do tears count as weight loss when you’re getting fit at 46? They better, because that’s pretty much what I did most of the day and mostly about nothing. Today is the day we start our journey taking the twins to school. I get up at my usual time, while the kids are still sleeping. So, of course working out kept being put off just in case they woke up and needed me. Yeah, 18 year olds “needing me”. But, I eventually convinced myself they were 18 and sleeping and I needed to just get it done. So, I did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, but skipped the rest to get back upstairs, just in case…
Finally, at 9 AM, the dogs just happened to make their way through the closed doors of each of the twin’s rooms and climbed into bed with them, licking them awake, oops…The rest of the day was spent packing, fretting, forgetting, and driving my fellow triwife a little nuts and not really focusing on getting fit.
We had a 7:30 PM flight to Newark to begin our 11 day adventure. It was really bittersweet leaving the house after a quick Happy Hour dinner at our favorite Hiro 88 in our building. We checked bags, got through security, sat down and were laughing together when we got a text – the flight was cancelled. Now,we travel a lot and I mean A LOT! It seems as though I am forever and always making flight reservations and it seems we have really been lucky with delays and flight cancellations. Until tonight…
Hubby and I went into action. I quietly got up and called the AA priority representative, while my husband without being noticed, made his way to the desk. By the time I had an AA representative on the phone, we received a text that we were rebooked for the first flight in the morning. Only then did we say out loud the flight was cancelled, so others would know, as it still had not been announced. The AA agent got us seats together, we collected our bags, and headed home; all happy.
Yes, happy, we got a forced additional night at home with the twins, a big bowl of popcorn, a nice cocktail hubby made me, and we watched an amazing documentary the twins picked, Ride the Divide. The music was great by the way. After a beautiful thunderstorm, we all turned in for the night.
It was a true pleasure to have our flight cancelled last night. I mean, what can you do. It goes with the joys of traveling and you just have to know in advance how to handle these travel bumps when they happen. (I sense a new article coming….) We will sleep, get up tomorrow, rinse and repeat, and restart our adventure to get the twins to college and restart my getting fit at 46. Stay tuned for the next 11 days…
